Portale
This work was the product of a class led by Jaume Plensa of public art proposals in the form of installations. My piece was inspired by the history of city gates and read "Life creates Order does not create..." which translates as "Life creates order. Order does not create life," when read in a circle.
The show was exhibited in the John Hancock Tower, courtesy of the Richard Gray Gallery. I talked with members of the press, Chicago city administration, and John Bryan, the chairman of Millennium Park.
It was accompanied by Public Light and Space, an exhibition catalog with an accompanying DVD. I contributed a written essay, photos, recorded interviews, and my video editing abilities to the project. The catalog won a gold award from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.
My work, Portale, was eventually purchased by the office of the president of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago as a gift for Mayor Richard Daley.
