I assisted artist Jan Tichy in the creation of writing workshops for fourteen- to eighteen-year-old students who lived in or around Cabrini Green, a controversial public housing unit that was scheduled to be demolished. The students’ writing was performed and translated into light signals, which were projected from inside of the building on the last night before demolition. The students’ work was also recorded on a website, printed in a poetry collection, and documented through exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Public Housing Museum.

My role has been to collaborate to help create the curriculum for the writing workshops, to assist in leading parts of the workshops, and to help to edit the accompanying publication of students' written work.

All photos for this project were taken by Jan Tichy. See the Facebook page for Project Cabrini Green for more details.
