Monica Nickolai

I am an artist working with language, narrative, and visual art. My creative practice mines the gap between ontology (the nature of existence) and epistemology (how we record and understand experience). Having lived abroad extensively, I explore myth—what is true, what is mistaken for truth, and that which exists beyond truth. Drawing from history, folk wisdom, fairy tales, and science, I create interdisciplinary art that blends creative writing with visual forms.

I earned my MFAW in writing from School of the Art Institute of Chicago. My work has been platformed around the globe, including exhibitions and residencies in the Netherlands, Korea, the U.S., Wales, and the United Kingdom.
