Questions of Public Space
Questions of Public Space
Performance
2009

For this performance, collaborators Ethan White and Lorena Mostajo wrote the following questions in chalk on an underpass near Millennium Park in Chicago:
How can we account for the needs (real or imagined) of the public? What prevents us from establishing a truly free and open public space? Is public space a commodity? To whom does this space belong?
Ethan wrote in English, while Lorena wrote the translations in Spanish. I used a mop to erase the text, leaving only colored streaks where the text had been.
